Cottonseed: 2022/23 harvest gets a good rithym and projects a record

The cottonseeed production area in 2022/23, is estimated in 1,63 hectares, a 2,2% growth compared to last season (Conab).


The culture crop began in july and reached, until 08/05, 39,7% of the total estimated area.


In Mato Grosso, the state’s Agriculture and Livestock Economy Institute (IMEA) pointed out that the Harvest, until 08/04, reached 35,1%. This represents a 12,8 percentage points advancement in the weekly comparison.


The cottonseed culture area remained the same according to june and july expectatives. Estimated in 1,2 million hectares, it is 1,8% larger than last year’s area.


The state’s productivity projections were raised, being able to reach 295,93@/ha, a 19,4% growth when compared to 2021/22 season. The climate has favored the farms development.


Due to the positive cottonseed estimated productivity readjustments, it is expected a 5,34 million tons of cottonseed for Mato Grosso.


In Bahia, the second largest producer in Brazil, the crops reached 55,8% of the estimated area, until 05/08, for the 2022/23 season. The local production should grow by 12,1% when compared to 2021/22 season, estimated in 1,46 million cotton (in seed and plume formats) tons.


Offer and Demand balance

Conab has raised the cotton, in plume format, national production, in its offer and demand balance publiushed in august (8/10), going from 3,00 to 3,03 million tons. Demand related, the company kept the exportation expectancy (1,70 million tons) and domestic demand (2,40 million tons).


With it, the final cotton stock for the 2022/23 season is estimated at 1,95 million tons, a number above the 2021/22 season extimatives (1,30 million tons).
